Clinical diagnostic testing plays a critical role in 70% of clinical decisions related to admittance, diagnosis, therapy and discharge of patients. An accurate diagnosis can only be accomplished through the use of diagnostic tools that are thoroughly validated for many properties (analytical validity, clinical validity, clinical utility, cost-effectiveness and cost-utility) and supported by high-quality evidence. Furthermore, interpretation of genetic diagnostic tests requires comparison to highly annotated databases of reported mutations for each disease. A major objective of the RMGA is to encourage the translation of genetic discoveries into meaningful applications for the general public. The RMGA supports a number of Platforms that address this objective.
